God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. – Psalm 46:1-3

“If you need to pause, pause, and come back into the work when your ready.” Then I chuckled a little and said, “even if you’re not ready but think you can, keep going….”

I said the above in a recent cardio + strength class. Currently, I’m prerecording the cardio + strength classes, and today, as the others and myself were sweating through class, I heard myself saying the above statement.

One of the things about teaching movement, all types, is that I get to see first hand, participants get stronger, more flexible, and realize that it’s worth showing up. There are lots of things at work for the transformations in their bodies, but watching them realize it’s worth the work, and that they can do more than they thought they could/can, is inspiring to me. My hope is that off the mat, they will take what they learned from their physical experience and apply it to other areas of their lives. Some do, and some don’t, and that’s okay because I know all the benefits they are getting are still creating positive impact. When someone can move well, and do more things physically, this has a powerful impact on their attitude.

But what about when it’s really hard? What do you do then? There is a connection I believe we need to get when life seems to hard for us. As believers, the circumstances seeming too hard may be exactly where we need to keep showing up. Getting to the place where we willingly show up, relying on God to show up and help us through the next steps…. Those are the moments where the life transformation that God is after happens.
Like endless burpees, jumping jacks, and downward facing dogs, life sometimes keeps throwing curve balls that don’t stop. When this happens, what actions are we taking?
– Within the chatter in our own heads
– The beliefs in our hearts
– The physical and emotional steps we take?

Are we staying in the work (and struggle) and allowing our belief and faith to increase, or are we allowing ourselves to be taken out of the story and plan God has for us? Why or why not?
